Some messages are planned – Others are birthed in obedience.
This one began with a simple moment in the Word, reading 2 Timothy 1:6, where Paul exhorts Timothy to “fan into flame the gift of God.” I had not intended to write that morning. I felt unprepared. I thought I would wait.
But the Spirit would not let me.
So, I switch on my computer and got started
And I believe with all my heart that this message was not only for me, but it was also for you.
The Fire Is Already in You
Let me ask you something.
Do you desire a successful life?
Do you long for divine health?
Do you want deeper revelation from Scripture?
Do you expect miracles, breakthroughs, and change?
Most believers would answer yes.
Yet here is a hard truth that changed my life: we often hand over responsibility for our spiritual growth to others. We look to pastors, prophets, and leaders to carry what God has already placed inside us.
Prayer from others is powerful. Impartation is real. But if you do not tend your own fire, whatever you receive will fade.
Paul does not say, “Wait for someone else to fan your flame.”
He says, you fan it.
The Amplified translation puts it beautifully: stir up your inner fire.
That means there is already a fire within you. The only question is, what kind of fire are you carrying?
Is it a small candle, easily extinguished?
Or is it becoming a blazing bonfire that transforms everything around it?
Your level of manifestation will always follow the size of your fire.
Stop Living on Borrowed Faith
You can come to church every Sunday. You can receive prayer week after week. You can live in constant expectation.
But if you never build your own inner life with God, the results will be temporary.
I lovingly call this “weekend Christianity.”
It produces short-lived breakthroughs and long seasons of frustration.
If you do not want to live on borrowed faith, if you do not want to depend on others to sustain your spiritual life, then you must learn to build your own fire.
This is where everything changes.
How Do You Fan the Flame?
It is simpler than we make it.
You fan the fire by:
- Praying daily
- Speaking in tongues
- Reading the Bible
- Studying and meditating on the Word
- Worshiping
- Listening to anointed teaching and messages
- Immersing yourself in God’s presence
These are not religious duties. These are spiritual fuels.
Every time you step into God’s presence, something ignites inside you.
When the Holy Spirit sees that you steward the fire well, He entrusts you with more.
And the greater the fire, the greater the manifestation.
It is spiritual law.
What You Feed, Grows
Here is another revelation that struck me deeply.
Whatever you immerse yourself in will shape your life.
If you fill your mind with endless dramas, you will manifest drama.
If you saturate your heart with sad music, you will carry sadness.
But if you fill your spirit with the Word of God, worship, and prayer, you will release living water.
Scripture tells us that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.
When your heart is full of God, your words carry life. And when your words carry life, your environment begins to change.
This is powerful.
Take Responsibility for Your Spiritual Life
One of the first levels of spiritual maturity is realizing this:
Where you are today is not someone else’s fault.
It is the result of what you have been feeding.
That may sound confronting, but it is also incredibly empowering.
Because it means if you want more, you can have more.
If you want deeper intimacy with God, it is available.
If you want stronger faith, you can build it.
If you want greater manifestation, you can grow your fire.
The moment you received Christ, everything you need was deposited inside you.
You already have the flame.
Your assignment is to keep it alive.
Baptism strengthens it.
Prayer and impartation activate it.
Prophetic ministry can intensify it.
But daily devotion sustains it.
Just like a campfire, if you stop feeding it, it dies. If you keep adding fuel, it grows into something powerful.
This Is Your Invitation
Do not wait.
Do not postpone your spiritual growth.
Pick up your Bible.
Turn on worship.
Pray.
Build your inner life.
Fan the flame.
You were never meant to live as a weak Christian, barely surviving from one Sunday to the next. You were created to carry the fire of God and to live empowered by the Holy Spirit.
This message may feel simple, but I truly believe it can transform your life if you apply it.
The fire is already in you.
Now, tend it.
Feed it.
And watch everything change.
